Default Help with daily email message?

Every day, at 03:34 like clockwork, I get an email from root that says...

exim paniclog /var/log/exim4/paniclog on vps02.davepusey-itservices.co.uk has non-zero size, mail system might be broken.
    What does this mean exactly?

My exim daemon is up and working ok.

The error message indicates that exim crashed when attempting to start at some point (run stat /var/log/exim4/paniclog to see when the crash occurred and the log was last modified) - it appears as though cron will continue to send this alert indefinitely.

The error notification behavior and a workaround are mentioned in this Please have cron only notify if paniclog has new entries Debian bug report.

I've since delete the /var/log/exim4/paniclog and that seems to have solved it. No idea how the file got created in the first place.

If it comes back, it might be worth it to investigate what is contained in the log. Never know, could be something weird going on.
