Default klogd hangs under XEN (Ubuntu 9.04 template)

just installed a new Ubuntu 9.04 template on a NYC XEN account. I was very pleased to detect that a true console login is possible via standard SSH (other IP on non-standard port, just copy addrs from console java applet).

However, it takes ~2 minutes to boot the XEN VPS. The console shows, that /etc/rc2.d/S11klogd hangs for a longer period. Root cause: /etc/default/klogd overwrites the KLOGD variable presetted in /etc/init.d/klogd. Seems to be an Ubuntu error which leads to access denied when the non-root klogd tries to read /proc/kmsg.

Fix: change /etc/init.d/klogd and move the contents of the KLOGD= line(25) into to start-stop-daemon line(44), which then reads:

    start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --chuid klog --exec $binpath -- -P $kmsgpipe $KLOGD

    HTH sme.

Thank you for the report - I will ensure that our template developers take a look at this issue for future template releases.
