Default Question for VPSLink about OpenVZ

I'm asking this question in relation to a little PHP script I've developed....

Using Virtuozzo 2.6, the user_beancounters were globally accessible; meaning, anyone could read them. With Virtuozzo 3, the user_beancounters are only accessible by root. With the OpenVz here, the beancounters are also accesible only by root. Where does our OpenVz fit in the Virtuoozzo development picture?

    - Is the OpenVz we're running here an update version, equivalent to Virtuozzo 3 in the development framework?
    - Was there a previous OpenVz, equivalent to Virtuozzo 2.6?
    - Or is this the first release of OpenVz?

I've been wandering around the sw-soft site but can't quite get it. Any light you can shed would be appreciated.

    Sleddog,

OpenVZ is much closer to VZ 3.0 than 2.6. The main way to tell this difference is the 2.6 kernel provided by OpenVZ/VZ 3.0 then the 2.4 kernel that was included in the 2.6 branches of Virtuozzo.

The version of OpenVZ in production doesn't allow anyone but superuser to view the beancounters.

    Thanks for that.

So were there earlier versions of OpenVZ, or did it essentially start with this version, with the 2.6 kernel?

To my knowledge all development of OpenVZ has been based on the 2.6 kernel. There is lots of good info over at openvz.org as well.
