Lighttpd php-fcgi with xcache

If you run xcache on a lighttpd server with php running as an fast-cgi module, does it result in a separate cache for each instance of php running?

Any ideas?

I believe xcache uses shared memory, so it should just be one cache for all processes.

Any ideas on installing xcache on an OpenVZ server?

For Ubuntu, I just installed it via apt-get then turned it on via the xcache config in /etc/php/conf.d/. I have to say though, I was very disappointed. I'd heard it made a drastic difference in PHP's CPU usage, but when I've tried it for phpBB 2 and a simple Wordpress install, the gain was actually negligible at best.
